Volunteers needed
At the AGM we failed to appoint the Men's Fixtures Secretary and the Umpire Secretary. Both of these roles are important to the running of the club.

A short description of each is below. We need people to do these roles, so please think whether you could do them.

Men's Fixtures Secretary - Responsibilities - To ensure that the pitch is booked for home games liaising with the Magnus School, communicate start times to away teams, liaise with other clubs on Newark away fixtures and confirm or re-arrange fixtures during the season.

Umpire Secretary: Responsibilities - To find out umpire availability (from our own members) for match days, appoint umpires to home games, liaise with captains and the Fixture Secretary’s.

Both roles probably take up most time at the beginning of the season and as the season progresses they should take up less time. Both roles require people to have good communication and organisational skills, and will of course be supported by the Committee, Captains and others in performing these roles.

If anyone is interested, and they don’t have to be playing members, then please get in touch with Arran or Katherine.

Back to Hockey
We are running some Back to Hockey sessions through the spring and summer. There are aimed at mainly women (but all welcome!) that might have played a while ago and would like to get involved again. Parents of our juniors are also welcome. Basically anyone who would like to learn a bit more about the game and give it a go.

So whether it be a friend, your sister, mother or neighbour. Encourage them to come down and have a go at hockey. Led by Paul and Sally the sessions will go through the basics of hockey, the rules and a few skills.

These sessions are open to all and there is no commitment to joining the club. Sticks and balls will be provided but if anyone has any spare sticks then please bring them down on a Wednesday night and we can hopefully give those old sticks a new home!

The first session will start on Wednesday 9th May 2012 from 7.00pm till 8.00pm for 6 weeks. Meet on the Magnus pitch. There will be a small charge to cover costs £2 per session or £10 for all 6. Contact: Katherine Hawkins - secretary@newarkhockeyclub.com
