Match Report: Back to Back Thrillers

Mens 1s

The Mens 1s had back to back games at the weekend, playing some outstanding hockey. The first game on Friday night was away at Lindum HC. The final score was 3-1 to Lindum with captain Alex Davies scoring Newark's only goal.

Next they faced a home game against Melton HC. The game was an eight goal thriller with each side taking the lead throughout the 70 minutes. Davies followed up Friday night's exploits with another two goals with Simon Higgs getting in on the action too. Gary Barker scored after a wonderful flowing move as Newark fought back in the closing minutes to claim a draw.

Mens 4s

Meanwhile the Mens 4s travelled to Barton HC for a 4pm start and were rewarded with a 3-1 win. Goals from Cameron Roberts, Luke Pearce and Alec McNulty.

Ladies 1s & 2s

The Ladies 1s and 2s also played games back to back, this time welcoming Derby HC. Derby played some good hockey in the first game against our Ladies 2s but we were able to take the lead through a Laura Donaldson solo effort and then Sophie Chambers swiftly converted a penalty stroke. Unfortunately Derby came back with the goals to see out the match 3-2. The Ladies 1s then took the field but with several of the team playing two games and a few injuries, Derby's well worked short corners proved too much for Newark. Despite the visitors scoring four times without reply, Newark played well throughout.

Lots to work on at training ready for the new season.
