Newark Hockey Club welcomed former player and Olympic Gold Medallist Shona McCallin on Sunday.
The 'Golden Girl' visited the academy and junior hockey coaching sessions. More than 100 young players got to meet the Olympic star, have their sticks signed, hold the medal and have photos taken.
Shona started playing hockey under the tutorship of Mrs Fergusson 18 years ago and is always keen to inspire the next generation.
As well as being the focal point of the day, Shona set a series of activities for our young players to try their best in a 'Challenge Shona' course involving 3D skills and close stick work. The younger players showed off their passing drills with Shona watching on.
"We are extremely grateful for Shona taking the time to come back to Newark Hockey Club " said Tim Burch, Vice Chair & Head Junior Coach "We all watched as the GB Team won in Rio and we hope lots of people have been inspired by her visit."
Before she left, Shona donated a small number of signed memorabilia for the club to use in future fund raising activities.
At 11am, all players and coaches stood shoulder to shoulder at the half way line for Armistice Day in memory of those who served in the First World War and veterans of all subsequent wars involving British and Commonwealth troops.
