England Mixed Trophy v Derby
Newark travelled to Derby for the 1st round of the mixed trophy unsure of what to expect but intent on making sure that it was an enjoyable day regardless of the old weather.
Newark started slowly and Derby settled in well and took a 2 goal lead before Newark really got going. However from there Newark worked hard to get the ball and started to get back into the game.
A well worked short corner found Alex in space who put the ball away to see the score 2-1 at half time.
Two more short corner goals one from Arran Coggan with a shot from the top of the D finding the bottom corner of the goal. Then Sam Smith with the 3rd with a slip ball from Alex finding him in space and a calm finish saw Newark take the lead.
Newark then worked hard to keep Derby from finding the equaliser and with hard work from the defence and midfield managed to hold out and now go through to the 2nd round on the 19th Feb with the draw happening tomorrow.

Men’s 2s vs Melton
Newark travelled to Melton with 4 regular players missing so welcomed back Tom Shaw to goal and saw Kian Hunter take part in his 1st game for the 2nd team as well as welcoming Dave woods and Ben Bradley to the team.
Melton were bottom of the league and the only team Newark beat in the 1st half of the season so were looking to complete the double over them to help look to get out of the relegation zone.
Newark stated slowly but with Melton only starting with 10 players gave them an advantage which as the half progressed Newark had more of the possession and chances.
Melton’s only real shots came from a few short corners they won but the defence held firm and finally Newark made they possession pay with good work from Kian Hunter finding Tim McManus who finally found the empty net just before the recovering defence could get back to him.
The 2nd half was pretty similar to the first with Newark having majority of possession but not creating too many clear chances which gave Melton opportunities to find the equaliser.
However they found an inspired Tom Shaw in goal who made three great saves late in the game to keep Newark’s 1st clean sheet of the season and their 2nd win.

This week saw Newark start at the top of the table, Newark wanted to keep it this way against a Ramgarhia Derby team which the previous week beaten Leicester Panthers allowing Newark to go top. The game did not start how Newark wanted it to with Ramgarhia going 1-0 up within the first few minutes from a well thrown ariel which Ben Eagles missed trapped and allowed the panthers strikers to break away and find an unmarked player on the penalty spot who fired the ball past the diving James Wakeland. This woke Newark up who started to now move the ball well around the back and through the midfield but could not harm Ramgarhia’s defense for long periods of the half but a through ball from Kieran Meppem found the on rushing Ryan Foster who rounded the keeper and fired the ball into the back of the net making it 1-1 at the break.
The start of the Second half started well for Newark as they pressed Ramgarhia back into their own half and after a few minutes got their reward when Ryan Foster found himself in front of goal again and fired the ball into the back if the net putting Newark 2-1 up, this then sent the game into a well battled game in the midfield for long periods but a poor tackle from Keiran Meppem saw him pick up a green card and leave the field for 2 minutes. That spurred Ramgarhia on and they pressed more and more and eventually found the second they had been looking for, the Ramgarhia player rounding James Wakeland who thought he had pushed him wide enough but the Ramgarhia player fired the ball high into the roof of net making it 2-2, a few minutes later Newark went back down to 10 men with Alex Davies questioning the umpire one to many times and picking up a yellow card and leaving the field for the next 5 minutes, Newark held out for this period of time with standing the Ramgarhia pressure and with the return of Davies they were back up to full strength and pressed Ramgarhia back and finally found the breakthrough when Smith found Davies in the area who fired the ball past the keeper into the bottom corner of the goal putting Newark 3-2 up, Newark did not let the pressure and a few moments later found themselves 4-2 up with a great team move involving Tom Roper, Tom Smith, Sam Smith, Jack Mcmunn and Alex Davies. The move started with a quick sideline at the halfway line and a few one touch passing took the Ramgarhia defense apart and found Mcmunn on the penalty spot who slipped the ball to the on Rushing Davies who had an empty goal to put the ball into. The action then turned to the sideline where Coach Halfpenny picked up a yellow card after exchanging a few choice words with a Ramgarhia player and causing Davies to leave the field again and Newark down to ten again but this was only for a minute as the full time whistle went leaving Newark 4-2 winners.
