The 2016 Nottinghamshire Sports Awards were held at the Nottingham Conference Centre weds night, and Tim Burch was recognised for his commitment and dedication to club and county hockey. Tim received the Outstanding Contribution to Sport Award as part of the Newark & Sherwood Sports Awards, and therefore was put forward to the county celebration. Tim was inducted onto the prestigious Roll of Honour, which recognises Nottinghamshire residents who have devoted their lives to Nottinghamshire sport. Now in their 25th year, the sports awards set out to recognise the best of Nottinghamshire sport, from elite athletes to local clubs and community volunteers. Tim started coaching in 1995 with his son, and played for a number of years as well. Following retirement in 2009 he then visited primary schools to encourage pupils to take up playing hockey. In 2012 he set up a school hockey league and this also led to the Sam White Tournament, following Sam's passing. Sam was an ever present volunteer at the schools league. Tim still goes into 5 schools midweek and training on a Sunday, and County training when applicable.
Chairman Arran Coggan said "Sport in Nottinghamshire, and indeed Newark Hockey Club, could not continue without the support of dedicated individuals. "Tim has been recognised by the District and now the County for his dedication, hard work and selflessness for supporting many young people to pick up a stick and play hockey. We are indebted to him - the junior numbers we have turn up every week are a credit to his hard work. This accolade could not have gone to someone better for his commitment for grassroots sport."
