Nearly seventy very excited U8 hockey players descended on Newark Hockey Club on Sunday to compete in the first ever U8 mini tournament held by the club. Four clubs - West Bridgford, Boots, Mansfield and Newark - entered teams and played 4v4 matches on mini pitches with no goal keepers.

Red Team- Newark Otters
For almost two hours the atmosphere at The Magnus was full of shrieks of delight and super-proud parents cheering on their off-spring. The top-performing side was Boots A closely followed by Newark Otters.

Yellow Team - Newark Beavers
For many players it was their first taste of competitive hockey. Three five year olds played in the Newark Herons and Newark Beavers teams, demonstrating that talent can be spotted and developed from a very young age.
Some excellent hockey skills were on show and who knows if a future Olympic star was in our midst.

Blue Team - Newark Herons
A huge thank you to our U8 coaches Charlotte, Ellie, Hannah, Jacky and Paul R-M as well as to our young umpires who gave up their time on a cold Sunday afternoons - Ryan, George, Izzie R, Abbie, Josh and Alex.
