New Year Newark Hockey Academy Newsletter

Dear All,

I hope you've all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year.

The second half of the hockey season starts this Sunday (7th January) and we are moving to our winter timetable with sessions starting an hour later. This will continue up to and including Sunday 18th February.

10.00am - 11.30am U16s and U14s

11.30am - 12.30pm U8s

11.30am - 1.00pm U12s, U10s and GKs

The hope is the extra hour will give the pitch time to warm up and if the pitch is frozen I have more time to let you know about cancellations. Sometimes we find that large parts of the pitch have defrosted whilst other areas are still unplayable. In this case we will only train on the areas which are safe to do so. It is important all players come dressed for the weather - plenty of layers, gloves (ideally with grippy palms) and a hat.

And that leads me onto our special NEWARK bobble hats - please see picture. A small number are still left to purchase for £8 from the signing in desk. If there is enough demand I will order some more. Please let us know.

On Sunday we would like to perform a 'Dab for Daniel'. Daniel was a 6 year old boy, who died just before Christmas and was well-known by some of our players. We plan to take a photo of a group 'dab' between training sessions at 11.30am and add it to the many photos which local people have posted in memory of Daniel.

We have a busy few months ahead of us and plenty of matches to look forward to. I have listed below the dates for your information. We try to include as many players as possible in our games, but are mindful they need to be ready as matches can be daunting. We will contact you if your child's coach would like them to play.

Our U10s and U12s have the very prestigious In2Hockey tournament to prepare for on Sunday 25th February at Beeston Hockey Club, near Nottingham. Therefore please try to attend as many training sessions as possible.

Our older players are being kept busy with NoDe matches and Badgers matches and are having great success in these. Our U8s tournament was a huge success and I am trying to encourage one of the other clubs to host another mini tournament soon.

We always welcome your feedback. Our aim is to create an Academy with More, Better, Happy hockey players and we encourage you to talk to us about any questions you, or your child, may have.

And finally, I want to thank again (because they are amazing) our coaches and volunteers who give up their time to ensure the Academy runs smoothly. Their enthusiasm and dedication is incredible. We also have a team of young helpers who not only help with coaching sessions but also umpire many of our matches. Thank you!

See you on Sunday.
