Match Report: Saturday 6th October

After a couple of friendly matches for the Newark Hockey Club mens and ladies sides in September, the league matches got into full swing on Saturday. A scrappy but gutsy performance by the Men's 1s led to a1 - 1 draw against Boots 3s. The team showed lots of positive signs throughout the game, especially from the younger players including goal scorer Ryan Foster and man of the match Emil LIniewicz.

The Men’s 2s started their match against North Notts well, holding a 2-1 lead with goals from Andrew Tallis and Josh Kent until the last five minutes when the opposition scored two goals in quick succession, snatching a last-minute victory.

The Men’s 3s lost 4-0 to West Bridgford despite having several chances to get on the scoreboard, men of the match was a tie between Logan Tustin, Jacob Martin, Henry Gibbons and Craig Joynes.

The Ladies 1s drew 1-1 away at Ashbourne. A tough first match saw a Newark goal disallowed in the first half, nonetheless, the team fought back with a goal from Sarah Pask in the second half, player of the match was Hannah Beckett.

The ladies 2s lost 2-0 to Worksop despite a hard-fought match, and the ladies 3s lost 2-1 at home to Notts Players. Ellie Smith scored an impressive goal with a flick from a penalty corner and a wealth of with promising skills were shown by many youngsters playing full pitch ladies’ hockey for the first time.
