Newark Men’s 2’s v Mansfield 2’s
Newark welcomed Mansfield 2s for the last game of the season.
After losing the previous 21 matches this was the last chance for the men’s 2s to get a point on the board. However, Newark had lost the reverse fixture 8-2 in January so nothing was guaranteed. In recent weeks the team had seen improvement in play and chances created so went into the game with optimism high.
Newark soon settled into the game and was creating opportunities and putting the Mansfield defence under pressure.
At the other end the calm head of Dave Colcomb marshalled the defence and kept Mansfield attack away from the Newark goal.
With the whole team working well the opportunity came for Newark to score with the first shot saved by the Mansfield keeper the rebound came out to captain Simon Higgs who's 1st time shot was goal bound only for Dave Fellows to decide he needed to get the final touch to make sure it was going in.
Newark were determined not to let this lead slip away and with effort form the defence of Tom Scotney, Tom Linford, George Silver working with Dave Colcomb Mansfield never really put Goalkeeper Robbie Robertshaw under pressure.
The midfield of Cameron, Louis, Josh and Dave back them up and kept the ball going forward to Dave Fellows and Tim McManus to see the game out and finally see the 2s WIN a game.

What a way to end the season, a well-deserved win and a cracking game. Newark started well from the first whistle grabbing a goal in the first 5 minutes of the game, followed shortly by a number of chances which Newark did not manage to convert. Belper tried hard to get past the Newark defence to equalise but failed to do so. Final score 1-0 to Newark.
