Ladies 1s v Ashbourne Ladies 1s
Lost 2-1
After a great team effort to get the pitch playable, a strong start to the game saw Newark go into half time 1-0 up. The home side were disallowed another goal and had several more chances in the D but were unable to convert. Unfortunately, a disappointing second half and 2 goals to Ashbourne meant the game ended in a loss.

Ladies 4s v South Notts
Last Saturday, Newark played away, against South Notts. The match started off with Newark in the South Notts’ half of the pitch and Newark’s attacking players worked well together around the D. Unfortunately, Newark were not able to score due to South Notts’ defence and very strong goal keeper. In the first half, Newark played well, but it soon became clear that South Notts were the stronger team. South Notts, after taking the ball from out of their half, made their way up the pitch leaving Newark’s defence behind; South Notts had slid a ball past the Newark keeper. Newark went into the second half, wanting to equalise. Defender Moira Chambers worked the ball around the D setting up some great runs for the wingers. As a result, Newark managed to score their first goal, lifting the team’s spirits. Unfortunately, the stronger team prevailed and South Notts put several more goals past the Newark GK.
Newark played well overall, working together as a team and making stronger passes around the pitch. Final Score: Newark 1 - South Notts 7 Player of The Match – Moira Chambers
Mens 1s v Beeston
It was a tough first loss of the season for the top table team and a heavy defeat for Newark. The team were carrying several injuries and with a number of normal players absent, the well-prepared opposition took full advantage. Despite a cracking goal from Ryan Foster, Newark went home with a 6-1 loss.

Mens 3s vs Derwent
After a shock defeat last week, Newark came back strong with a comfortable victory against a Derwent team whose performance was much better than their current league position would suggest. Newark were without captain Seb Hufton but welcomed back young Oscar Tunnicliffe and not so young Martin Tustin to the centre of midfield, Oscar has been a shining star for the 3s this season in a well-balanced team of youth and experience. Daniel Jackson filled in more than ably as captain and Newark who were by no means at their best dominated for large parts of the game.
Newark started strong and early pressure gave them a penalty corner within minutes of the first whistle which was converted by Craig Joynes with a well-placed shot that although not his best caught the keeper off guard and deflected in off his pads. Newark continued to apply pressure and were rewarded with a second goal from another penalty corner, the initial shot was well saved by the keeper but Tunnicliffe was on hand to slot home to make it 2-0. Newark would have hoped to kick on and add a couple more before half time but unfortunately the visitors took their foot off the gas and allowed Derwent back into the game meaning Newark only had a 2-0 lead at half time.
Newark managed to pick up the tempo in the second half and created a host of chances one of which fell to Logan Tustin who was found unmarked at the back post after some great build-up play down the right wing. Newark should have made it 4 after Ciaran Logue made a carving run down the centre of the pitch a played a pin point ball through to Joynes on the post unfortunately he could only deflect the ball into the keeper’s pads. At 3-0 Newark were comfortably in front but again as in the first half they allowed Derwent a series of attacks which luckily were just about dealt with by the defence well marshalled by centre back David Beedham despite felling a little sensitive from the night before. Joynes luckily atoned for his earlier miss by despatching a thunderous shot from a penalty corner into the bottom right corner making it 4-0.
To wrap things up Newark made it 5 with a perfect hockey goal, great work down the right wing by Jacob Knox (probably the youngest player on the pitch) saw him take the ball past two Derwent defenders and play a great ball across to Logan Tustin who found Cameron Roberts for a tap in past a stranded keeper. Newark could have made it more with Tim McManus and Cameron Roberts both blazing wide after getting in fantastic shooting positions. The score ended 5-0 to Newark and keeps the in second place just 3 points behind the leaders and 6 points clear of 3rd.
Consistency throughout the whole match still evades Newark and the team need to be a bit tighter in the middle of the park but all in all it was a great all-round performance especially from the young contingent of Oscar Tunnicliffe, Jacob Knox, Logan Tustin, Willis Gent and Goalkeeper Joel Beadling who despite not having too much to do was constantly alert when called upon.
