Juniors

Established in 1897

Our aim is – More. Better. Happier. Young hockey players

More: We welcome new players of all abilities aged between 5 and 15 years. We organise and run the Newark Primary School Hockey League and the Sam White Hockey Tournament. The league and tournament offer hundreds of local children the opportunity to participate in competitive hockey.

Better: We have a team of qualified and enthusiastic volunteer coaches with a wealth of experience working with young players of all abilities. We ensure our players gain basic skills and nurture their potential and understanding of the sport. We arrange regular hockey fixtures across all our age groups to build game-play experience. There is a well-managed transition between junior and senior hockey so young players can develop at their own pace. We communicate with our players’ parents keeping them involved in their child’s hockey development.

Leadership and Unity: We pride ourselves on being more than just a group of players; teamwork, mutual respect, and a shared passion for hockey are the values that we play by. Our experienced team captains and coaches are dedicated to building a strong, cohesive unit that supports each other on and off the field.

Happier: We pride ourselves in nurturing a positive atmosphere to ensure hockey is fun and enjoyed by all our young players, whatever their ability. We all love hockey and want the players we coach to love hockey too! All our coaches and volunteers have undertaken England Hockey Safeguarding training and DBS checks as required.

Badgers hockey is designed to help junior players on the cusp of senior hockey transition to an 11-a-side full-pitch game.

Each team can field up to three adult players and at least eight junior players (aged between 12yrs and 16yrs). The adult players’ role is to act as on-the-pitch coaches and to facilitate play. They have various restrictions placed on them, such as not being allowed in the attacking ‘D’. We have entered teams into the Lincolnshire Development League and a friendly Nottinghamshire Badgers League.
